Abstract

This study attempts to analyze Frame Semantics in Kurdish language. For this purpose, the study is conducted from the perspective of Cognitive Linguistics school based on the theory of (Frame Semantics) of Charles Fillmore as one of the theories of cognitive semantics, which focuses on the background and knowledge of the speakers. He explains Frame Semantics and its importance in everyday life and demonstrates that linguistics elements in mind evoke a frame according to one’s experience, depending on how that element is encoded in mind. He claims that we only understand a concept when we have tangible experience with it. He believes that the concepts of a frame are stored in human memory and relate to their frames at the right time and place, he determines the reasons for the metaphorical usage of concepts, furthermore he explains how a speaker uses those concepts to describe a scene based on their own perspective and viewpoint? Hence the study aims to determine the frame semantics of words related to experience in Kurdish language, at the same time what are those concepts that are used in a specific frame?
