Plagiarism Policy

The Scientific Journal of Cihan University – Sulaimaniya (SJCUS) takes the originality of published research very seriously. To ensure the integrity of our content, all submitted articles undergo a plagiarism screening process.

How We Screen for Plagiarism:

We utilize a combination of methods to detect plagiarism in submitted manuscripts:

  • Plagiarism detection software: We employ Turnitin or a similar industry-standard plagiarism detection software to scan submitted articles against a comprehensive database of published works.
  • Editorial review: Our editors are trained to identify potential plagiarism indicators during the initial review process. These indicators may include:
    • Unusually high similarity to published works (excluding the author's own previous work)
    • Inconsistent writing style within the manuscript
    • Improper citation practices

Acceptable Similarity Scores:

We generally consider submissions with a Turnitin similarity score below 15% to be acceptable. Scores exceeding this threshold may require further investigation or revision from the author.

What Happens if Plagiarism is Detected?

If plagiarism is detected during the screening process, the corresponding author will be contacted and informed of the issue. Depending on the severity of the plagiarism, the following actions may be taken:

  • The author may be requested to revise the manuscript to address the plagiarism concerns, such as proper citation or paraphrasing.
  • The submission may be subject to further review by the editorial team.
  • In extreme cases, the submission may be rejected.
